Automobile engineering is reaching unparalleled heights, and there are some pretty powerful cars in the world right now. However, you should know that the design of the vehicle plays an important role in how fast it goes.

These fastest cars have to meet the requirements of street-approved production vehicles.

The fight of brands like Koenigsegg, Hennessey or Bugatti is there as much as in the power of their engines. Even with cutthroat competition, it is likely that new entrants will be added to the following list.

Koenigsegg Agera RS: 447.2 km / h

Koenigsegg Agera RS is the fastest car in the world.

Swedish brand Koenigsegg achieved the current speed record in November 2017 with the Agera RS. One of the most spectacular models in the world, known for both its aesthetics and its incredible performance. This is also the car that stole both the acceleration and braking record in the ‘0-400 km / h-0’ was snatched from the Bugatti Chiron!

The Koenigsegg Agera RS is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 petrol engine with a final output of 1,360 hp and a torque of 1,370 Nm at 8,250 rpm. And this with a weight of only 1,395 kilos! Thanks to this, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.9 seconds. Although this brand is by no means the most significant of this type of car, it has outperformed in all departments. Unfortunately, this car will no longer be produced and we will soon see a successor, which is set to push the speed record much further.

Hennessey Venom GT: 435.3 km / h

The second position of the fastest cars in the world is for the Hennessey Venom GT. This company, known for its models from other brands such as Ford and Chevrolet, has managed to put one of its creations on this list. The Venom GT is actually a Lotus Exige modified from top to bottom.

The engine of this car is a 7.0-liter biturbo V8 with 1,471 hp, which is associated with a six-speed manual gearbox. Specifications that are even more impressive considering that its total weight is only 1,244 kg. No more units will be made, so Hennessey released the Venom GT Final Edition as a farewell to this model (pictured above). The Hennessey Venon F5 is the coach’s next model, although it has yet to prove on the asphalt that it can exceed the 450 km / h announced by the house.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: 431 km / h

The third position of the cars with the highest top speed is for the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. This car holds Bugatti’s internal speed record, even though the Chiron has been in production for some time. Its engine is an 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 with 1,200 hp. As usual at these power levels, all these horses are transmitted to sleep thanks to all-wheel drive. The specialists at Royalty Exotic Cars have already taught us what happens when you convert this car into a rear wheel drive.

SSC Ultimate Aero: 411.7 km / h

The Shelby Super Cars Ultimate Aero achieved its current record of 411.7 km / h in 2007. Speed that today keeps it in fourth position on this list. At that time, its 6.3-liter V8 engine and three turbos produced 1,183 hp. Which added to its low weight made of carbon fiber made it a real missile.

In 2011 Shelby Super Cars increased its power to 1,305 hp, retouched its body and announced a top speed of 439 km / h. However, the manufacturer never managed to back up that number with facts and this list is only for cars that have proven their capabilities.

Saleen S7 Twin Turbo: 399 km / h

We finish this list with the sub 400 km / h with the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo. A car that was launched in 2000 with a 7.0 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine and 575 hp of power. These specifications left it very far from being able to enter this list. However, in 2004 it received two turbos that increased its power to 750 hp, and that allowed it to go from 322 km / h of the first version, to 399 km / h. This puts it firmly in the list of the top 5 fastest cars in 2021.
