Follow your passion! Find what you like, and are passionate about doing, work on it, and you will finally be happy. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? It is a very popular piece of advice in recent years. You find that activity, you do it, and your problems of dissatisfaction and work boredom will end, but the question is how to find your passion? The reality is that the advice to follow your passion doesn’t work for most people.
To
find that job that truly fulfills you, finding your passion is not the first thing you should look for because
it is not the first thing that comes along.
Most
people do not know what they are passionate about, and when they find passion
in something, they do not know how to monetize it or make it profitable.
To
learn more insights, we reached out to Dion Todd who is professionally
attributed as a singer, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur. Todd acquired a
Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT).
The
Canadian musician found his passion for music at an early age, and was driven
towards achieving his ambition from then. Todd understood what he had to
sacrifice and what he had to put at stake in order to enter the world of music,
started by learning and practicing multiple musical instruments.
As
a professional musician having success with the EP “Be Alright”, Todd is on the
run for a enviable music career. This year, Todd has been the recipient of MusicNL
(Music Newfoundland) Telegram Fan’s Choice Entertainer of the Year.
Dion
Todd on the big lie about following your passion
I’ll
get to the point. You can’t follow your passion when you don’t even know
yourself; when you do not know what you are passionate about and you have not
tried activities that make you feel true satisfaction and genuine taste in the
short and medium-term.
“When
you follow that famous advice and go in search of your passion, it often
happens that you find yourself with a mental unknown that only makes you remain
immobile without knowing what to do.
“That
I’m passionate? What is it that I enjoy doing now and will enjoy doing in 5
years? What do I like to do?
“It’s
not about you finding something that you were passionate about just for a week
or a month, that doesn’t work. You must look forward to several years and
define a goal greater than just your satisfaction and enjoyment.”
The
world doesn’t care what your passion is
“Sometimes
when we ask ourselves what we like to do or what we are passionate about, and
the answer is things like sleeping, going shopping, checking Facebook and
Instagram, or watching movies. A feeling of even greater confusion is generated
in us.
“How
am I going to follow my passion and live from it, if what I am passionate about
has nothing to do with a business idea or something that allows me to get the money?
“The world is not interested in your passion. He doesn’t care if what you
love to do is chew gum or lie down, staring at your cell phone. Those are not
passions.
“A passion means that you are doing something with
true love, following your intuition and obeying that inner call that drives you
to be better.
“You
can look for a passion for the
work you do, but the truth is that for many, the idea of following their passion does not work. The vast
majority of people do not know what they are passionate about, and when they
are passionate about something, they do not see how to make it profitable.”
If
you are one of those people, then relax. You don’t have to follow your passion.
The
people who advise you are those who have found it, and of course, it is not the
same for everyone; for some, it is easier to discover their passion than for
others. Not all of us develop in the same environment or under the same
circumstances.
If
the idea of following your passion doesn’t
resonate with you, then what comes next interests you.
You
are a multi passions
In life, you will not find a passion, but an
infinity of them.
Following your passion greatly reduces your chances because you can have
countless of them, and many with the potential to be profitable.
A
person with many passions is the ideal candidate to be an entrepreneur because
he can make a perfect mix of each of his passions and strengths and use them to
create a business with a peculiar brand attributed to his personality.
If
you are a person with many passions, then think of a business idea that allows
you to work several of them. For example, if you like administration, jewelry
and sports, why not start a business of bracelets with sports designs, made by
yourself and apply the administration of your own business.
