Amazon Affiliate is extremely popular with bloggers who want to monetize their blog by recommending products. Reputed to be simple to set up, profitable, it is very attractive, especially when you want to embark on gentle monetization.

How does Amazon Affiliate work?

Amazon Affiliate is pretty simple to understand. You sign up for the Amazon Associates Program with your site or social media links; this registration allows you to access tools to create links to every product sold on Amazon that you want to select.

Each time a reader goes through your link to make purchases on Amazon, you earn a commission, a percentage of the sale that depends on the category of the product sold. You can check the list of commissions as per the categories here.

Once you reach an earnings threshold, you can receive your compensation in the form of direct deposit, cheque, or a Gift Card to spend on Amazon.

Amazon Affiliate Benefits

It is very simple to set up – Once your registration is validated, you can very easily create a link to products in the Amazon catalog.

The product catalog is vast – Amazon has several million references in fields as varied as decoration, culture, high-tech, fashion, beauty or even home equipment. This means that on almost in any blog theme, you can find products to recommend.

The service is serious – Big Amazon customers, it must be admitted that most people have had few problems with the service in several hundred orders. A little breakage, sometimes, a few unscrupulous deliverers, but Amazon has always refunded me or returned the product.

Few Cancellations – As an Amazon Affiliate, you only get paid if someone keeps their order without canceling it. Cancellations remain quite rare, unlike other affiliate programs such as (where travelers do not hesitate to cancel hotel reservations until the last moment!).

You benefit from “group purchases” – Very often with Amazon, buyers do not settle for a single product and beyond the one you recommend, they add others to their basket. You also earn a commission on these products… which sometimes becomes very profitable. For example, if you recommend a book (which generates a very small commission) but the person decides to buy an overpriced vacuum cleaner at the same time, to take a lived example;), you will also receive a commission on the vacuum cleaner even if it is not the product you originally recommended.

You benefit from Amazon searches – Amazon is an e-commerce giant and as such, does everything to maximize its sales and optimize the customer experience on its site. They have UX Designers in their teams, researchers who work on the latest innovations (voice search for example) and as an affiliate, if you send them visitors, you can be sure that Amazon will do the maximum for them. convert into customers!

The pay is square – Amazon is known for making sure that customers get paid on time, and there hasn’t been any issue reported by people.

And last good news: Amazon has removed the commission cap that existed until recently!

Indeed, when a person made a purchase involving a commission greater than €10 for you, the amount was capped at €10 anyway. Let’s imagine for example the purchase of a luxurious suitcase from a branded company at $375, with 10% commission. In theory, you can therefore receive $37.5 in commission, but Amazon capped your remuneration at 10€.

This ceiling has disappeared, as many have seen recently.

Disadvantages of Amazon Affiliate

The commission rate is low

The commission rate varies depending on the nature of the product you are selling, between 3% and 10% of the value of the product. I have seen this rate decrease drastically over the years and on certain products, the gains remain minimal (example: books).

Rejection from Amazon

I’m a big Amazon customer so it’s natural for me to promote products from this site… but when talking with those around me, I have to face the facts: a lot of people don’t do not buy on Amazon, either because they favor “physical” stores for certain types of purchases (especially when it is an expensive purchase), or out of “mistrust” because they favor small shops to the detriment of an e-commerce giant.

Like many affiliate programs, Amazon Affiliate relies on a cookie. In other words, when a visitor follows your link to go to the Amazon site, a cookie (a small computer program) is placed on his computer to “remember” that this visitor has gone through your site before buying. It has a lifespan of 24 hours: if the person takes a long time to decide and makes a purchase beyond this window, you will not receive a commission. Ditto if she clicks in the meantime on an affiliate link belonging to another person. On the other hand, if the person adds the product to their basket without buying it, the duration of the cookie can be extended to 89 days!

On 28 February 2022, Amazon is going to retire Quicklinks, which is a feature that’s found on their affiliate platform home page. Amazon Affiliate Quicklinks allows users to search for any product that they want. Instead, Amazon recommends that people use the product search function on their website or their mobile shopping app to find what they are looking for.

Can I build affiliate quicklink on the Amazon shopping app?

If you don’t have a desktop or laptop, you can also build links using the Amazon Shopping App’s mobile GetLink feature. The Mobile GetLink feature is designed to make it easy for users to quickly get links for their affiliate products and redirect users directly to their product detail pages. All they have to do is to go to their mobile app, and the feature is automatically enabled within the app.

Once a user logs in with their Amazon Associates credentials, they can easily see their GetLink from the Share button. Once you click that, you will see several Store-IDs as well as Tracking-IDs, allowing you to quickly select an appropriate link.

The Mobile GetLink feature is currently available on both Android devices as well as iPhones, making it a fantastic choice for people who want to quickly build links.

How long does the Amazon affiliate cookie last?

Affiliates can earn commissions from sales made within 24 hours of clicking on the affiliate link on Amazon since the cookie lasts for 24 hours. Affiliates should encourage users to click again after 24 hours have passed and encourage them to buy before the 24-hour window is over.

The Amazon cookie applies to all the products customers will buy after clicking on the affiliate link. If a user uses your Amazon affiliate link to place a car mount phone holder in their shopping cart and continues to add more items to their cart, the affiliate will be credited for commissions on all items ordered.
